About Madewell Interior Designers

Elena Madewell

Elena Madewell founded the studio in 1989 after years in her family’s furniture and finishes trade. She still draws the first plan of every house the studio accepts: ceiling heights, the walk from kitchen to garden, the weight of a stair.

Her rooms move between simple modern work and heavily layered classical interiors. The constant is proportion. Ornament is added only when the architecture can carry it.

Clients who visit the Scottsdale studio can walk samples, stone, and lighting in person before anything is released to the job site.

Mara Ellison

Mara Ellison directs studio operations and product logistics. She trained in business at Arizona State University and now coordinates millwork, stone, and furnishings from warehouse to house, including drop-ship programs for out-of-state work.

She also sits with the design team on visualization and finish packages, so the drawings the client approved are the rooms that get built.

Our companies

Madewell Interior Designers works with two sister practices so a house can be drawn, designed, and built as one conversation.

Madewell Studio is the architectural practice — plans, elevations, and the first structure of the rooms.

Madewell Estates is the custom building company — site, trades, and the finish that has to match the drawings.
